2010 Call For Artists

Open Call For Artists | DEADLINE May 1'st, 2010!

The ARTWHERK! Collective is back at it again and we are seeking Your work to exhibit at ARTWHERK! 2010. Since 2005, we have brought you exciting gallery shows at This Ain't The Rosedale Library, Xtra!'s offices and at Kensington Market's *Hotshot Gallery. Last year we had the honour of working with both Pride Toronto and the Art Gallery of Ontario to bring ARTWHERK! to the AGO's Walker's Court and a huge crowd of art lovers.

ARTWHERK! seeks to engage Toronto's cultural communities by showcasing the works and opinions of emerging LGBTTI2Q artists. While we are open to exhibiting the works of ARTWHERK!-ers past, this year we are making an effort to showcase first timers to the event. Your pieces could be paintings, collages, photographs, prints, ceramics, textiles, digital works, films, installations or any other artistic media You prefer.

ARTWHERK! 2010 | Exhibition Dates: June 22 - July 4, 2010

For ARTWHERK! 2010, we will be presenting the work of 12 artists who we feel have brought their perspective to the concept of 'Permanence'.

Permanence is associated with time, geography and sometimes even human construction. Permanence implies a presence; a historic record. Things that are permanent can also be thought of as true.

But just as permanence can be defined by presence, it can also be shaped by absences too. Voices that are constantly left out of debates echo through permanent silences, while forgotten people are subjected to the permanence of oppression.

We would like Your work to explore the concept of permanence. What is ever-lasting about queerness, art or the process of emerging into queer or artistic identities?

As an ARTWHERK! artist, You will get a spot to present two pieces at this year's exhibition. Additionally you will the potential opportunity to have your work profiled through various media outlets (in the past the event has been profiled by MTV Canada, Roger's TV, The Star, Metro, Now Magazine, Fab, Torontoist, BlogTO and more!).

We look forward to getting your applications! In order to be considered for this year's show, please fill out the application form below.
